Challenge 1: My favorite!

As we all know, Kelli won for her design...or well.....the bottom half of her design. However, there was one design that stood out for me, and it was totally skipped in the judging process.

Jennifer was my personal pick for the win. Her design used somewhat unusual materials (paper towels), was impeccably well made, and had a lot of charm. When asked to punch up her design by Tim, she used the only item she had: her lipstick. Overall, I loved it. Great job, Jennifer!

Online Bravo Challenge Submission

Here is my submission for the Bravo Online Challenge. If you see it on the website, please vote! Thanks!

My design: A dress with a classic silhouette, innovative seam placements (caused by umbrella's shape), and embellishments.

Materials: Black umbrellas (dress), crushed multicolored hard candies (embellishments)

Challenge 1: Bottom 3

When I say that these were the worst, I mean it. They weren't pretty.

Emily agrees.

Witness the designers bury their heads in shame.

Jerry is out. This has to be one of the scariest garments to ever go down the runway. I'm going to have nightmares about being killed by someone in this outfit. The surgical gloves, the gause dress, the white boots, the knife....Wait! He didn't accessorize with a knife? Really? A knife would have been better than those disgusting boots or gloves. Gays are ususally good at styling! Even the straight dude Joe probably thought this was fugly! .....I don't know what else to say.

They can't get rid of two people? Darn. What is there to say about this? It is a poorly made dress that is slutty, cheap, and looks just like a garbage bag. I could have made something better than this and I don't even know how to patternmake or drape.....

"Hi, I'm Stella and I wear my underpants on the outside like a superhero and have clown pants and wear studs cuz I'm cool. Yeah."

Blayne channeled a little Stella in his outfit, creating a diaper-like thing. And the top looks like a football players shoulder pads. Ick. This was beyond ugly, but I guess he gets points for having a point of view, even if it is a hideous one.

And so concludes Episode 1. I can already tell that this season will be wayyyy more entertaining than the last one. Yay! I guess we'll just have to watch what happens...

Challenge 1: Safe Contestants

Kenley's was cute. Nice retro vibe, which I was expecting. And I really liked the colors!

Terri's didn't wow me. I did, however, like the crochet type top. If I had done this challenge, I would NEVER have picked mop heads, so kudos to her for having a vision.

Suede...Well, at first, I thought it was beautiful. Then, after a little while of seeing it up close, I began to see that it is actually kind of ugly. The blue made it more interesting but it just looked a little messy. I don't know. I don't think he should have been in the bottom or anything, but it definitely wasn't my favorite.

Emily. Just...Ew. A fugly mess. She can do better.

Leanne's was cute. I understand why she covered up so much of the tablecloth, and I'm glad she did. The candies were ok, and I actually really liked the coffee filters. The shoes are hideous with that outfit, though. Her model, Karalyn, is gorge.

Jennifer surprised me. You can't tell that it is made out of paper towels, and the cute lipstick detail is AMAZING. Friggin adorable. Probably one of my favorites. I was actually surprised she wasn't in the top. Yeah, it might not be super innovative, but it was a really chic and fun dress.

Jerell did alright. Nothing astounding here. A little exuberant for my personal taste. But definitely not bad. The skirt was ok if not a little boring. But the corset top didn't exactly work for me. Oh well. He should step it up a bit.

Not only is Keith fun to look at, he is also pretty talented. Yeah, it is just a tablecloth, but it still looks way more stylish than a lot of the other stuff that went down the runway.

Wesley...I like the yellow and how he used the embellishments for the neckline. Other than that...There really isn't much to say. The gloves are hideous. He needs to step it up a little.

At first, I didn't even realize that the skirt of Joe's outfit was made with pasta! The look was actually really cute and I thought he did really well. For being the straight guy, he definitely held his own.

Next up is the bottom three....And let me tell you, it isn't pretty.

Challenge 1: Top 3

Kelli wins the first challenge! I thought it was fabulous. The skirt is a friggin masterpiece, and I loved the print she was able to create. It was really artsy. The spiral notebook thing for the hook and eye was really cool as well. I liked, not loved, the coffee filter bust. For some reason it just looks a little flat to me? Like the coffee filters had been flattened and were a little too large? In any case, I thought was the perfect choice for the win. Congrats!

Daniel, for me, took a huge risk. All he bought were the cups!!! What if they hadn't worked out? What would he have possibly done? He must have had a vision, because this worked out really well. It definitely stood out, and I liked the use of white trim around the top and bottom. Obviously this would be a tough garment to fit, but I thought it turned out nice. MK was right when he said the silhouette could have gone further, but overall the look was really stunning.

Jennifer Hudson (ahem Korto) took a risk with the produce, which I liked to see. The rest of the dress...Um...It was ok. The color was nice and dramatic, and the volume was definitely eye catching. Nina was right in saying she has a nice taste level. But to say this is "impeccably done"? The hem looks a little wonky to me. Still, this was bold and nice to see. A good start.

And so it begins!

Season 5 of Project Runway began last night, and the excitement was overwhelming. I, like half the country, was watching with friends as the designers began their journey on the show. We definitely had our opinions, and I plan on sharing them episode by episode.

Anyone else think Wes is a cutie? I'm guessing he'll go pretty far.

But hun? Lose the postman shorts. Ick.

Bettie Page! I think everyone will be rooting for this one. One to watch.

Korto Jennifer Hudson!

Blayne? Lay off the tanning. Tannorexia is not hot.

And "girlicious"? Never going to happen.
